BIOGRAPHY

Actor, director, producer, singer and radio presenter Ali Pınar has born in Istanbul. Alongside directing for film and opera; he is acting in films, TV series, theatre plays as well as giving concerts and presenting radio programs.

He attended to piano classes for seven years in Brussels at Waterloo Academy while he was resident there for his primary and secondary education. Back home he pursued his studies at Galatasaray High School. He completed his undergraduate study at Istanbul Bilgi University Cinema-TV Department with a scholarship from Belgium and his master degree at Haliç University Conservatory Theatre Department. Meanwhile he studied singing for three years with State Artist Ayhan Baran in Mimar Sinan State Conservatory Opera Department. Also he has trained with Şahika Tekand (Studyo Oyuncuları) and Ayla Algan (Ekol Drama) on acting and theatre. Thereafter continued his training three years with Mehmet Ulusoy, the most internationally acknowledged Turkish director. He also participated to Viola Spolin workshops of Kate Hendrickson, Jason Hale and Ege Maltepe. He is continuing his postgraduate education in Bahçeşehir University at the Cinema and Media Studies Doctoral Program.

Ali Pınar started acting since 1995 in films, TV series, commercials and plays. Recently in cinema, he performed a Syrian escaper of war in  an American independent film titled I Am You directed by Sonia N. Cole, that has been a candidate of nomination both for The Academy Awards and Golden Globes in 2020. Lastly on TV he appeared in one of the principal roles in Güneşin Kızları and in Cesur & Güzel as the father of Cesur, two TV series which were very popular not only in Turkey but across 85 countries. Ali Pınar, being a presenter on numerous events, has also presented Sinepolitik, a programme about politics and cinema on TRT Haber (National News Channel). The Battle of Prague, a work where he was the narrator, has been presented at Bruxelles Printemps Baroque du Sablon and in New York at United Nations, Dag Hammarskjöld Hall. He also performed The Narrator again in Prokofiev's Peter and The Wolf with Tekfen Philharmonic led by maestro Darrel Ang at TIM Show Center, the greatest venue in Istanbul. Pınar is performing since 2015 with TangoNEVA, one of the leading ensembles in Turkey, in concert halls and open air concerts as well as festivals across Turkey.

Ali Pınar worked between 2001 and 2004 as director assistant at the National Theatre. Priorly between 1995 and 1999 as an assistant director and stage manager at the former Istanbul Municipality Cemal Reşit Rey Opera. Directing baroque operas with periodic style is also among his passions, he is responsible for the mise en scene of baroque operas with Istanbul Baroque, the leading baroque ensemble in Turkey, where he is among the founders. He also directed the first Händel opera (Deidamia) in Turkey at Ankara National Opera in 2004.

Ali Pinar initially began in 1995 as a technician then worked in time as a production assistant and director assistant in Turkish film industry, including international productions. He found Corpora Productions, a production company where he is producing and directing documentaries and features since 2002. Among them Uyghur Karezes, shot in China, UK, Austria, Luxembourg and Turkey is an ecological documentary supported by both Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China.

As a music and radio lover, he has presented radio programs since year 2000 such as Aksak on the National Radio Station TRT 3, Alafranga on Karnaval Media Group Borusan Klasik Radio and Alla Turca on Radio Kozmos and Açık Radio. Alla Turca obtained in 2013 The Donizetti Prize as “The Best Radio-TV Program”.

Pınar, is also producing concert events within Corpora Productions since 2002 in international venues of Istanbul such as CKM Hall, Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall, Hagia Eirene, Süreyya Opera, Tophane-i Âmire, Zorlu PSM and archeological sites such as Bodrum-Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Manisa-Sardes Antique Site, Antalya-Phaselis Antique Site as well as venues and festivals across Europe such as Brussels Bozar, Tirana Jazz Festival; about classical music, jazz and Turkish folk music with well known Turkish musicians and ensemble.

Paying attention to education along professional experience Ali Pınar has taught between 2009 and 2013 producing, directing and script writing for film in Galatasaray İTM. He also gave seminars in Yapı Kredi Bank’s Cultural Center. He made translations of plays for National Theatre and librettos for State Opera and Ballet. He is also among the three authors of Cemal Reşit Rey on his 100th Year, a book about the pioneer of modern music in Turkey. He wrote film ciritic in Dünya newspaper, made interviews in Hürriyet, (one of the leading wide circulated newspaper) in Turkey and Andante music magazine.

He took office as a programme director assistant between 2012-2013 in the development of ACT World TV, an international news channel about culture and art. Ali Pınar is consulting on communication and art for institutions.
